The first few weeks after getting back to Virginia was quite hectic. I spent most of my free time looking for houses, which didn't go so well in the beginning. The housing market decided it was going to recover right before I arrived, so I got outbid on two places before an offer on the a 3rd was finally accepted. I think I got a good place though, so I am quite happy with the results. The new place will be in Ashburn Village. I am looking forward to getting out of the hotel. Btw, what did I do with my previous house you ask? It's rented out. I think I might have long term tenants so I am planning to keep that as an investment property. Having two mortgages is kinda scary, but hopefully it will all work out.
Aside from house hunting, I also spent a lot of time trying to catch up with friends and family. I made one quick visit to Virginia Beach (mostly so I can get my brother to work on my car so it will pass inspection), and also saw several friends over the various weekends. Although I have felt quite busy, I was and am still really glad to be back. Sunshine and family/friends go a long way to keeping me happy.
Probably the hardest part of the whole move was getting up to speed on my job. There is a lot to learn, so I initially felt like this might be the hardest job I ever had. My head was spinning the first few weeks, but I am feeling a bit better about it all now though. I still think it will be 6 months to a year before I'm truly comfortable, but I am trying not to stress over it too much. At the very least, my coworkers are all very friendly, and I have a nice office to work in. There's not too much I can complain about.
Millie also seems to be adjusting okay to her new location. This Spring has been cold though, so I am not sure how she will handle the summer. I can already tell on a sunny day in high 50's, she struggles a bit. Walking her here is definitely harder, but I am trying to find ways to keep her active. I haven't ventured out on any hikes yet, but I did hit Great Falls and Riverbend Park.
The next couple weeks should be a fairly relaxing one, but I will probably be closing soon on my new house. Shortly after that, I am expecting a visit from my mother in Japan, as well as my brothers and their families. I just hope that I will have enough time to clean, paint, and furnish the place; as well as unpack my shipment from Alaska; all before they all come.
